Tipping Rules

It is the standard competition format, but with a couple of extra things to keep it interesting:

  • Doubles: There will be two double rounds, which you can nominate at any round (only use one at a time).
Triple: There will be one triple round, which you can nominate at any round (only use one at a time).
  • Losers: Each week you must select one team that will lose, this will give you one extra point. However, once you have selected a team that has successfully lost, you cannot select than team again. This means there is a max of 17 extra points to gain. Since there are 24 rounds, there’s a bit of breathing space.
  • Margin: Each week you must specify the margin of the first game of the round. The player with the lowest aggregate margin at the end of the minor rounds will pick up an extra 3 points.

Just for interest, the maximum points attainable is 8*24 + (1+1)*8 + 2*8 + 17 + 3 = 244.
I’ll also keep track of the raw points score so you can easily compare to other, more lame, comps.

Each week x dollars (where x is the number of players) goes into a jackpot for whom ever gets the most number of correct selections outright. If there is no definitive winner, the amount will jackpot to the next week.

The remainder of the money will be split to the top three place getters in proportion  to 70%, 20% and 10%.

The cost $50, which must be paid by round 3.

Now, the logistics, I’m not going to have the website up in the next 12 hours, so just reply with your selections (see below) or text me.
For the first round only, if you don’t get your tips in on time, you will be given all the home teams.

If you have any mates that want to join in, they are most welcome… pass this email along!

Cheers, Greg.

Added for 2012 season:

From last year, for review:

* Can change loser during weekend, choosing from remaining games as long as your loser game hasn’t started

* Margin points will be 3, 2, 1 for first, second and third (instead of just 3 for first)…

* Just to make losers a bit more interesting, can only pick against same team a max of four times

* If you  are the outright lowest tipper for the weekend you will get you $1 jack pot contribution for that week back…. And your name permanently marked on the prize pie :).

* Strictly online tipping only.

Cheers, Greg.
